Bitcoin extends bounce above $82,000 as stocks rebound, DeFi tokens lead altcoin gains
Bitcoin rose 0.8% to around $82,700 as China’s GDP beat estimates and Nasdaq futures rebounded, while the CoinDesk 80 gained 1.3% and DeFi led gains.
Bitcoin BTC$82,836.58 is trading around $82,500, up around 0.5% since midnight UTC, extending a bounce from Sunday’s dip to roughly $80,700 and comfortably above Thursday’s brief break below $80,000.
Altcoins outpaced the largest cryptocurrency, with ether ETH$2,423.97 adding 0.75% to near $2,430 and the CoinDesk 80 (CD80) gaining 0.9%, triple the 0.35% rise in the bitcoin-heavy CoinDesk 5 (CD5). DeFi led the CoinDesk benchmarks with a 0.81% gain, with all six members of the DFX sector index higher.
The rebound follows a rough week for U.S. tech. The Nasdaq fell 4.5% in its worst weekly decline since June as worries over AI spending and debt hit stocks such as CoreWeave (CRWV), which fell 25%. On Monday, Nasdaq 100 futures advanced more than 1% alongside gains in Asian stocks after China’s third-quarter GDP growth of 4.5% beat expectations and oil prices eased, with earnings from Meta Platforms META and Tesla TSLA due this week.
Diversified RWA stablecoins sustain 5-7% yield from real credit as crypto funding compresses to ~4%. GENIUS pushes yield off-chain; TAM grows to $4B in 3 years.
Asanat Analysis — Why it matters
Bitcoin's move above $82k coinciding with risk-on sentiment (China GDP beat, Nasdaq futures recovery) suggests macro tailwinds rather than crypto-specific catalyst. This pattern—BTC following equity indices—has intensified since 2024 as institutional adoption and ETF flows made Bitcoin a correlated risk asset. The 0.8% move is modest, signaling consolidation rather than breakout momentum.
DeFi tokens outperforming the broader market (CoinDesk 80 +1.3%) indicates sector rotation toward application layer volatility during risk-on windows. This is typical behavior: when macro uncertainty eases, capital rotates from store-of-value narratives (BTC) into yield-generating primitives and derivative protocols. Monitor whether this DeFi outperformance sustains or reverses with next risk-off signal, as it often signals retail sentiment inflection before institutional retracement.
The China GDP narrative matters less for directional conviction than the fact that macro data now moves crypto price action materially. This dependency creates tail risk: crypto loses its uncorrelated hedge narrative during macro shocks, particularly if equity selloffs force liquidations across correlated assets.
