Bitcoin BTC$81,466.90 dropped about 1.1% over the last 24 hours, ether ETH$2,382.12 fell 1.7% and the broader CoinDesk 20 (CD20) Index lost roughly 1.6%, pulled lower by declines in Asian stocks and the rising price of oil.

Further weakness in equities could damp demand, analysts at QCP Capital wrote in a note published Monday. That may be on the cards. Both Nasdaq 100 futures and S&P 500 futures are lower, with companies including Coinbase Global COIN and Galaxy Digital GLXY falling in pre-market trading.

“Broader equity deleveraging dynamics could transmit to cryptocurrency markets and potentially threaten the $80,000 support level if sustained,” the analsysts wrote.

For the time being, the bitcoin price remains above that level after demand for the largest cryptocurrency picked up on Monday, as illustrated by the spot U.S. bitcoin ETFs. The funds posted their biggest net inflows in a month and BlackRock’s IBIT recorded its largest inflows in over a year.

Monday’s fund flows offer encouragement for bulls, though demand remains concentrated. The ETFs attracted roughly $527 million in net flows, with BlackRock’s taking in $665 million while those from Fidelity and Grayscale recorded withdrawals.

The ether ETFs lost $103.3 million, their fourth consecutive day of outflows, showing bitcoin-specific demand rather than demand for the wider crypto sector.

Conversely, the analysts added, a continued Treasury rally could support risk assets, particularly alongside falling real yields and a weaker dollar.

Even so, the macro backdrop leaves little room for complacency. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield is around 5.13%, while Brent crude is trading near $110 a barrel, keeping energy-driven inflation risks a headwind that could worsen if the geopolitical backdrop doesn’t improve.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to hold interest rates steady next week, though a 25 basis-point increase is being priced in for next month on prediction markets, leaving little reassurance for investors worried about tightening conditions. Stay alert!

The chart shows weekly candles in bitcoin’s price along with the 50-week exponential moving average (EMA).

The weekly trend remains intact, holding key support above the EMA with no signs of divergence in the relative strength index (RSI) in the lower panel.

The conditions point to consolidation above the support level as more likely than a major breakdown.

Asanat Analysis — Why it matters

Bitcoin ETF inflows typically correlate with institutional capital rotation into risk assets during periods of equity strength. If equities are weakening—signaling broader risk-off sentiment—the timing of record monthly inflows becomes counterintuitive and potentially fragile. This suggests either: (1) tactical rotation from equities into crypto as a differentiation play, or (2) lagging capital that hasn't yet priced in deteriorating macro conditions. The sustainability of these inflows depends on whether equity weakness is cyclical noise or the onset of a broader deleveraging cycle.

Historically, Bitcoin ETF flows have inverted during equity sell-offs, particularly when VIX spikes or credit spreads widen. If equity markets continue declining while crypto holds inflows, it could indicate institutional conviction in Bitcoin as a macro hedge—validating the 'uncorrelated asset' thesis. Conversely, a reversal of these flows during sustained equity weakness would signal that institutions treat crypto as risk capital, not portfolio insurance, and would pressure BTC toward support levels established in previous correlative episodes.
